MIAMI – On Valentine’s Day, Miami will join with more than 180 countries worldwide to RISE and DANCE in protest to the abuse that has resulted in 1 billion women – a third of all women on the planet – being abused, beaten or raped in their lifetime.
The international effort was created by Eve Enlser (The Vagina Monologues) and joined by celebrities such as Rosario Dawson, Jane Fonda, Debbie Allen, Alice Walker and Robert Redford along with activists and spiritual leaders such as The Dali Lama and Bernice King.
Local endorsements and participation have come from Tracy Mourning, Miami Beach Mayor Mattie Bauer and other notables.
The event is free and open to the public. The location is the New World Symphony Soundscape, 500 17th St., on South Beach. Non-profits that serve similar causes are invited to participate for free as well.
