Florida Memorial University was the latest stop on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) College Tour, transforming FMU’s A. Chester Robinson Athletic Center into an action-packed entertainment center.
Hundreds of students enjoyed video games, singing contests and a Name that Tune-style Drop the Beat Contest. Shakia Huttoe bested her peers to earn the opportunity to serve as the student host.
‘It was a memorable experience to promote our school on national television,’ said the FMU Communications student.
Katherine Belters made history by becoming this year’s first female winner of the tour’s freestyle rap battle.
Belters attributed her success to her ‘poetic background and peer pressure.’
Participants enjoyed a performance by R&B singer Ray Lavender, and crooner Akon participated in the 3-point contest. More footage is coming on BET TV.
