With a new school year on the horizon, Miami-Dade County Commission Vice Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson will help students get a head start with her fifth annual Back-to-School Fun Day.

Edmonson and volunteers will distribute free book bags containing school supplies and goodies to students in grades K-12 during the event that is being organized in conjunction with Curley’s House of Style.

In addition to the book bag giveaway, attendees will be able to enjoy free food, music, games, raffles and prizes.

The Florida Department of Health will administer free vaccines for school, provided that parents take along their children’s vaccination records.

Both book bags and immunizations will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.

“Back-to-School Fun Day has been a huge success every year, with thousands of residents preparing their children for school, learning about health services and enjoying the final days of summer,” Edmonson said.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday, Aug. 6, at Jefferson Reaves Park, 3090 NW 50th St. in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood.
