robert runcie_web.jpgSUNRISE — Broward County Public Schools will host the free anti-bullying, health and safety parent conference, Red Flags: What are the Warning Signs? From Danger to Dialogue, on Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at Piper High School, 8000 N.W. 44th St., Sunrise.

The event is in partnership with and co-sponsored by the Safe to Be Me Coalition and the Broward County Council of PTA. 

Red Flags is an anti-bullying, health and safety conference for parents, teachers and community members to discover ways to use information learned in workshops to assist children. 

Featured speaker for the event will be Robert W. Runcie, Broward County Schools superintendent. A viewing of the Oscar-winning short film Trevor will set the tone and frame the conference workshops and discussion.

Participants will be able to choose three workshops to attend. Translators will be available for participants needing translation (Haitian-Creole, Portuguese, Spanish).   

Workshop topics will include:

Red Flag Behaviors: Spotting the Warning Signs — learn the warning signs of “at risk” behavior and how to access resources to help children

Communicating With Our Kids — learn to pick up on the cues children are sending and how to talk to children to get results

Now It’s Getting Uncomfortable: Talk to Our Kids About Sex, Values, Relationships, Prevention, STDs and HIV/AIDS — learn to start the conversation that will protect teens

What Every Parent Needs to Know About Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Youth — discussion about LGBTQ children and their families and to how to support these families in the community

Bullying 101: Using Broward’s Anti-Bullying Policy for Your Child.
