BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Alabama's three largest newspapers and their website announced they are cutting about 400 employees.
The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, the Press-Register in Mobile and al.com started notifying employees Tuesday whether they would be offered positions with two new operating companies.
The changes come as the newspapers plan to reduce their days of publication from seven to three this fall and put more emphasis on the al.com website.
The two new operating companies, Alabama Media Group and Advance Central Services Alabama, say they plan to post more than 100 vacant positions for which all current employees are eligible to apply.
