MIAMI — Monday, Feb. 11 marked the launch of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami’s annual accelerated construction project, Blitz Build 2013, presented by Baptist Health South Florida.
Through Feb. 23 more than 1,500 volunteers will work alongside Habitat partner families and sponsors in completing ten new Habitat homes.
The ten homes will be the first of 45 in Habitat’s newest South Miami-Dade community, Habitat Landings, at 20400 S.W. 119th Ave. South Miami Heights, which will be completed over three years.
“Habitat has some wonderful communities throughout Miami-Dade, and this will be another one that we can all be proud of,” said Mario Artecona, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami “We have some wonderful partner families selected for these homes and they will be a huge asset to the community.”
Blitz Build is made possible through the support of corporate and institutional donors who sponsor individual homes. This year’s sponsors include: Anthony R. Abraham Foundation, Assurant, Baptist Hospital South Florida, Chase, EverBank, Faith House, Miami-Dade Housing Finance Authority, Publix Supermarket Charities and WSVN Channel 7 as well as one house co-sponsored by eBay & TransFlorida.
Blitz Build 2013 will conclude on Feb. 23 with a dedication ceremony celebrating the partner families who will purchase and reside in the recently completed homes.
Volunteer opportunities are available with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami. No construction experience needed, just a willingness to help families in need of a decent, affordable place to live. Volunteers will be served breakfast and lunch and will be given t-shirts and mementos of their participation.
