COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The University of South Carolina is hosting science teachers and more than 100 minority high school students to enhance the students’ science, technology, engineering and math skills.

The College of Engineering and Computing effort Friday is part of a two-day program that offers hands-on workshops. It is meant to expose students to various technology, engineering and math skills.

The students also work with engineers and computer scientists from local businesses as well as USC faculty and staff in the workshops.

The university is also hosting 400 teachers from around the country to help them improve instruction of certain technology and science subjects.

They are focusing on improving instruction on subjects such as engineering, energy and the environment, the human body and aerospace engineering.
