FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Design! Build! Play! KEVA!, an innovative, interactive permanent exhibit opens at the Museum of Discovery and Science on Nov.

10. Sponsored by Meike and Dominick Miniaci, an official ribbon cutting will take place on Friday, Nov. 16, at 11:15 a.m.

This new exhibit encourages visitors, regardless of age, to build. The KEVA planks are simple in their design, which forces the visitor to think outside of the box and create in three dimensions. They can work together to unravel physics challenges using principles of balance, geometric shapes and stability to engineer and build creations with structural integrity.

KEVA planks require just simple stacking so even young children know what to do, but few parents can resist the chance to get in on the action. Keva Planks are unique in their appeal to every age. Toddlers, elementary age children, teenagers and adults all build at their own ability level.

A family can create villages, horse stables, bridges, rivers, train tracks, sculptures – the possibilities are endless. It is an active, thoughtful activity that the entire family can enjoy. Children are especially inspired when they see their parents on the floor actively creating and imagining with them.

The exhibit is a fusion of art and science, the KEVA exhibit gets scientific minds thinking artistically and artistic minds thinking scientifically. As a design emerges from the mind of the builder, he/she must wrestle with balance, structural integrity, symmetry, form and function.

Opening weekend events are Nov. 10 through 12 at the Museum of Discovery and Science. Nov. 10 is International Science Center and Science Museum Day. Learn about sustainable cities and buildings and engineer towers and bridges with KEVA planks. Activities are included in the price of exhibits admission.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES

Bridges Competition 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Construct a bridge with KEVA planks that can hold the most weight.

Tallest Tower

Use your engineering skills to create the tallest tower with a limited amount of KEVA planks. Be careful that it does not topple over!

KEVA Relay 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Complete our obstacle course while keeping your KEVA planks balanced.

Sculptionary

Get your team ready as one teammate builds an object while the others guess what the object is. Be the first to guess correctly and win the round!
