Broward County Public Schools hosts free college fair

The 2015 Broward County Public Schools College Fair will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, from 5 – 8 p.m. in the Don Taft University Center, 3301 College Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The BCPS College Fair gives students and parents a unique opportunity to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, and two-year and four-year colleges and universities.

Surfside launches new mobile app

To tout its local amenities, including dining, shopping and lodging options, the Town of Surfside Tourist Board will officially launch the Visit Surfside Mobile App on Oct. 15, In conjunction with The Charter Agency, the app’s official sponsor. This much anticipated technology provides a new way to discover what Surfside has to offer. The Visit Surfside Mobile App features a list of where to dine and shop in downtown Surfside, information and booking resources for the hotels, GPS walking and driving directions to each park and attraction, a calendar of events to attend and much more. Registration is free with a valid email address.

 

Town Hall forum for teachers

An education town hall meeting is being held to bring together community stakeholders and educators with the goal of increasing graduation rates among socially and economically disadvantaged urban youth.

The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Miami Alumnae and Miami-Dade County Chapters, and Delta Education, Health & Cultural Initiative, Inc. (DEHCI) have joined forces to present the Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC). This is a nationwide “Call to Action” in support of teachers to motivate their students to achieve academic success regardless of life circumstances.  The interactive forum serves to heighten the public’s awareness about teacher efficacy and the positive impact it has on learning, academic achievement, prospects for graduation, and college entrance among urban, at-risk students. The DTEC Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Historic Lyric Theatre Complex – 819 NW 2nd Avenue, in Miami’s Overtown community.
