Give back to the community

Palm Beach — The Urban League of Palm Beach County, Inc., offers wonderful opportunities for people to give back to the community by making a difference in the lives of others. Volunteers assist the organization in a variety of ways from helping in the office, working with youth as mentors, helping low income residents file their income taxes and serving holiday meals.

To match your interests with the agency’s volunteer opportunities, contact Marcel Ellis at 561.833.1461, ext. 3007 for more information on how you can serve and the training requirements.

Book fair launches

Post-{L}it Note contest

Miami-Dade — Miami Book Fair at Miami Dade College is teaming up once again with WLRN 91.3 FM, South Florida’s NPR member station, to give South Floridians a chance to write their stories. #PostLits is a community project showcasing tales that can fit on a Post-it Note. (Post-it Note + your literary creativity = Post-{L}it Note). It is as easy as jotting some words down on a Post-it Note. One story, one Post-it in English, Spanish or Creole. People can share  experiences like their I-95 commute, the first time seeing a dolphin, what they do with all those mangoes, or what’s in their hurricane kit.

Take a pic of the Post-it and post it on social media, tagged #PostLits, or email a pic to submissions@wlrnnews.org. Use hashtag #Postlits on social media. You can also submit your story at WLRN.org/PostLit. A panel will choose 20 favorite stories, with winners receiving Book Fair tote bags, Book Fair memberships, tickets to Evenings With, WLRN swag and a carton of custom Post-its in bright South Florida colors. The contest ends on Nov. 22. Visit: MiamiReads.com/postlits for more info.
