Staff Report

A new movie is attempting to awaken the black community to its reported buying power of $1.3 trillion by 2017 (Nielsen).
It’s no secret that African Americans lag behind in critical financial areas. To address this disparity, movie producer Ric Mathis has produced the movie Black Friday with a talented cast of actors. Supporting Mathis are some of today’s top luminaries in entertainment, academia and the financial planning fields.
The film is being shown across the nation. For its Miami screening, Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson and the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater
will host a presentation that includes the viewing of the movie followed by a panel discussion and dessert reception.
The screening is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 pm at the Lyric Theater, 819 NW 2nd Ave, Miami. Doors open at 7 pm. The event is free, however, RSVPs are encouraged. To do so, email Sboydparty@aol.com.
