Staff Report

You’ve probably seen celebrities react with astonishment to discover where they’re from and who their family’s ancestors are. Finding Your Roots is a hit T.V. show, people are doing DNA tests, and National Geographic is embarking on the study of the human race through genealogy research.

Creating your family tree and discovering your history can be an amazing and fun process. Learning that you have shared genetic roots with other cultures can be life-changing.

You can get in on the fun at this lunch and learn workshop, where members of two Miami pioneer families Oscar and Patricia Braynon will share highlights from their journey tracing their families’ history. Patricia, Chairperson of the Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida will review the different platforms available for performing a genealogy search, and you can start your family tree.

Bring a bagged lunch or purchase from a vendor on site for the event on Wed., Jan. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at CIC Miami, 1951 NW 7th Ave., #Suite 600 in Miami.
