WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Soft skills like making eye contact, a strong handshake and remembering the interviewer’s name can sometimes determine whether a person is hired for a job. To help high school students understand what they are and how to use soft skills effectively, the School District of Palm Beach County’s Choice and Career Options Department, in conjunction with the Business Development Board and CareerSource, held its annual Claim Your Future Event for high school students to participate in industry panel discussions. The students also had an opportunity to network with local and national employers and attend a discussion on soft skills needed in the workforce.
Students were bused to the Palm Beach Convention Center where they attended two panel discussions on the topics of: Aviation, business, construction, education, finance, governmental relations, healthcare, hospitality, information technology, law, logistics and manufacturing.
