DAVIE, Fla. – On April 8, Fathers M.I.A will serve as fathers to the fatherless when it hosts its Inaugural Spring Gala Policemen’s Ball, “As We Honor Her.” The gala will honor 25 deserving young ladies, grades 9-12, from the Miami-Dade and Broward communities at 6:30 p.m. at the Signature Grand in Davie.

Birthed out of the vision of the organization’s founder, Gernald Hawkins and co- founder Robert Jackson, this event is designed to foster a connection between fatherless young ladies and a community that cares.

“Our vision is to turn the hearts of the fathers back towards the children and the hearts of the children back towards their fathers,” the duo often say.

The purpose of the event is much like the vision of the organization – it is a mission to “counsel, instruct and support Fathers on their path from Missing In Action to becoming Motivated, Involved and Active.”

Community leaders, teachers, counselors, city officials and pastors are invited to submit nominations. Two high school seniors will be awarded scholarships based on an essay submitted to the organization about the impacts of being raised without a father.

Fathers M.I.A has partnered with local police agencies that will volunteer 25 outstanding officers who will escort the young ladies and “bridge the gap” left by their fathers.

Organizers said they are striving to make the night one of honor that will be remembered by the young ladies forever. They hope to provide an unforgettable experience that the young ladies may not otherwise receive.

The event will be hosted by South Florida radio personality, Tamara Gant aka ‘Tamara G,’ of the nationally syndicated Michael Baisden Show. The night will include: recognition, dinner, dancing, live music and special guest speakers, all with the goal of honoring the deserving young ladies.
