FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office invites the community to observe the National Day of Prayer with them today, May 4 with a ceremony at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the Public Safety Building, located at 2601 West Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

Originating in the Continental Congress in 1775 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952, this annual event has served to unite people of all faiths for more than 65 years.

Religious leaders from various denominations will lead BSO in prayers for the community. Sheriff Scott Israel wants the community to join him in taking a moment out of everyone’s busy lives to come together and exercise America’s freedom of religion as a single community of diverse beliefs.
