The Miami Herald has reported that the girl was found shot in a hallway outside a computer lab at the school.

The victim has been identified as Amanda Collette. The alleged shooter has been identified as Teah Wimberly.

Both girls are listed as 15-year-old sophomores at the school, according to a statement from the Broward School District.

Wimberley, the girl believed to have fired the fatal shot, has been arrested, according to police. She faces charges of first-degree murder and discharging a weapon on school property, according to The Miami Herald. NBC 6 reported that police found the gun that was used in the shooting in Wimberly's possession.

The incident began around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning when a student reported to a school resource officer that another student was lying in the hallway of the school, at 2501 NW 11th Street in Fort Lauderdale. The teenage girl, later identified as Collette, was unconscious.

The resource officer called police, and paramedics rushed Collette to Broward General Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition. NBC 6 reported that Collette has since died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Around the same time that Collette was being rushed to the hospital, police received an anonymous call from Capt. Crab’s restaurant near the school at 2431 W. Sunrise Blvd. The caller said there may be a student there who shot somebody at the school, according to police.

Police went to the restaurant and arrested Wimberly.

The school was placed on lockdown for a short time, but the lockdown has been lifted. There was an active crime scene at the school shortly after noon.

Police say the incident is an isolated one, the result of a dispute between the two teenagers, who have been described as honor students.
