The Miami Dolphins organization is again offering free skin cancer screenings as part of the Melanoma Exposed campaign, on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Dolphins vs. Oakland game.

The screening event will take place at Sun Life Stadium before the game from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Gate C, Sun Life Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens. The first 100 fans to get screened will receive a free pair of tickets to the upcoming St. Louis game on Oct. 14.

This summer the Dolphins teamed with Melanoma Exposed, a national campaign aimed to raise awareness of melanoma and its risk factors and to encourage people to take a more active role in their skin health.

Nearly 200 Dolphins fans were screened for skin cancer at the event. Several potential melanomas were identified and individuals were referred on to see their dermatologists. Florida residents were reminded to get screened, protect their families, and know the risks of the sun’s UV rays as a major risk factor for melanoma.

The cause hits especially close to home for the Dolphins. In 2010, CFO Mark Brockelman lost his wife to melanoma at the age of 45. Thus the Dolphins organization urges fans to come to the Melanoma Exposed tent at the home opener for a free skin cancer screening.

Additionally, three fans who attended the screening event in June will kick a field goal from the 50-yard line at halftime for a chance to win a $10,000 prize.
