BOYNTON BEACH — Genesis Community Health recently celebrated the progress and growth of the organization and its new status as a public-private partnership with a special reception.
The center at 564 E. Woolbright Rd., Boynton Beach, is one of 219 health centers across the country that received Affordable Care Act funding in June to help expand access to care for more than 1.25 million additional patients and create approximately 5,640 jobs nationwide.
Earlier on Aug. 8, Palm Beach County Councilwoman Priscilla Taylor toured the facility, and on Aug. 7, U.S. Congressman Ted Deutch also visited Genesis.
During the reception, board members, donors, supporters, staff members and patients enjoyed cake and sparkling cider, as the nonprofit organization recognized the work and dedication required to assist the local residents with preventative healthcare and screenings in the difficult economic climate.
Genesis was formed in 2009 in response to a community needs assessment that identified Boynton Beach as an area of need and that there was a severe lack of access to primary care for residents. The need was based upon evaluation of services available, high incidence of poverty and uninsured in the area, and high usage of the emergency room for primary care services.
Genesis is a Florida 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created to promote and provide health care to people of all economic levels, with special sensitivity to the needs of economically disadvantaged people of diverse cultural backgrounds in and around Palm Beach County. Genesis is an access point of care for patients who traditionally do not have adequate access to the health care system. The agency has received funds from the Quantum Foundation, Palm Healthcare Foundation and the Allegany Franciscan Ministries.
The Quantum Foundation provided initial funding and has since been a major partner in Genesis’ quest to become a federally qualified health center.
