NEW YORK — The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) recently tapped Beverly Nicholson-Doty, commissioner of tourism for the U.S. Virgin Islands, for its Allied Award.
Doty was honored by the regional agency for her contribution to the sustainable development of tourism in the Caribbean.
The announcement was made during Caribbean Week celebrations in Manhattan.
“We could not think of a better candidate for this year's award,” Jacqueline Johnson, chairwoman of CTO’s Allied Committee, said in a statement. “Commissioner Nicholson-Doty has been a champion of all things Caribbean and we continue to lean on her for guidance and counsel in moving tourism in the region to the next level.”
Established in 2005, the Allied Award is presented to an individual within the CTO ranks, whether from the public or private sector, who has done an extraordinary job contributing to the sustainable development of the Caribbean region.
Andréa Skerritt, New York-based public relations representative of the U.S. Virgin Islands, received the award on behalf of Nicholson-Doty, who was in Sacramento to take part in aviation talks.
“I am honored to be recognized by this outstanding organization,” Nicholson-Doty said in a statement.
