POMPANO BEACH- Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant, George Anthony, has been suspended with pay, related to the arrest of a deputy on prostitution charges.

Deputy Christian Benenati, 40, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with soliciting another for lewdness. The arrest and alleged incident occurred in the 1200 block of NW 31st Avenue in Pompano Beach.

As it turns out, the streetwalker he is accused of soliciting was actually an undercover deputy and part of a sting operation.

However, according to several sources, when Benenati was first captured on surveillance video propositioning the undecover deputy, he was recognized by members of the sting operation as a sheriff's deputy. Anthony, allegedly issued an order for them to shut down the operation and to let Benenati go.

A superior was called and Anthony was then ordered to identify Benenati from surveillance video, then locate and arrest him, according to sources. Benenati was found at a sport bar, in Coral Springs, four hours later where he was arrested. Internal Affairs arrived on the scene and has opened an investigation.

Benenati was released on $300 bail and is also suspended.
