RIVIERA BEACH — Suncoast High School Senior Emana Sheikh won first place and $500 in the first annual Make a Difference poster contest sponsored by the Florida Public Service Union (FPSU).

The contest awarded $1,000 to three students for artwork centered on how non-instructional employees such as bus drivers, custodians and food service workers make a difference.

Park Vista High School Senior Erik Guzman won second place ($300) and Dreyfoos School of the Arts Sophomore Jordan Lane Palmer won third place ($200). To view the winning artwork and honors visit seiufpsu.org

FPSU represents the bus drivers, custodial and maintenance staff in the PBC schools.

“Students understand that our schools are dynamic communities that rely on great teachers, leaders, drivers, custodians, and food service workers,” said Alphonso Mayfield, president of the Union. “I was so impressed with all of the artwork — a testament to the maturity and creativity of these young adults.”

Finalists' artwork will be on display at the Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center at a later date.
