The free family festival, which is named for Anansi, the West African trickster of folklore, kicks off Caribbean Heritage Month and will feature music, stories and dance from Caribbean culture.
Books and other materials relating to Anansi and Caribbean culture will be available for sale. Information on Anancy Festival 2012 is available at anancyfestival.com
The unique event will be presented in four cities:
Pembroke Pines, Orlando, Washington, D.C. and Kingston, Jamaica. It will be simulcast between each city so attendees can view performances at different locations.
Geared toward children and teens, the festival provides a unique way for young people to learn about their cultural heritage and experience a rich collection of stories, music and dance.
“We are happy to celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month with Broward County Library” said
Xavier Murphy, owner of Jamaicans.com and co-organizer of the Anancy Festival. “The Anancy Festival is a great opportunity for the community to learn about Caribbean Folklore as the character Anansi can be found in stories in almost every island in the Caribbean.”
