BOYNTON BEACH — Genesis Community Health of Boynton Beach, a non-profit health clinic dedicated to serving residents of all economic levels, is getting a jump on the 2012-2013 school year with two special health fairs — one for children, one for women — planned for June.

Genesis will help families get an early start to back-to-school planning with a special Children’s Health Fair, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on
Tuesday, June 19.

A week later on June 26, Genesis will turn its focus to mothers with a Women’s Health Fair focused solely on women’s healthcare concerns, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on  Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

Genesis is at 564 E. Woolbright Rd. in Boynton Beach. For more details call 561-735-6553 or visit gencomhealth.org

“We are starting the process of going back to school when we hope families have less to worry about, in terms schedules and appointments,” said DeAnna Warren, executive director of Genesis Health. “June is normally when parents are focused on summer camps and vacations, but we would like for them to think about health for a little while too.”

Families with students in the Head Start program are especially encouraged to attend to avoid the back to school rush, Warren said. Genesis doctors and nurses will join other volunteers from the Palm Beach County Health Department, Family Planning Division, Dental Division and Early Learning Coalition in providing preventative examinations and screenings to fair attendees.

On June 19, services for children will include dental screenings with fluoride varnishings, vision screenings, lead testing, school and sports physicals, body mass index testing and immunizations.

On June 26, services for women will include breast exams, breast health education, smoking cessation information, domestic violence education, gynecological and sexually transmitted disease exams, pregnancy education and blood sugar and blood pressure testing.

Genesis, an access point of care for patients who traditionally do not have adequate access to the health care system, was created to promote and provide health care to people of all economic levels, with special sensitivity to the needs of economically disadvantaged people of diverse cultural backgrounds in and around Palm Beach County.
