The Florida Memorial University men and women's track & field teams opened their outdoor season with impressive performances at the recent Florida International University Felsberg Invitational at Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar.
Dredame Carter, the reigning NAIA 400 Meter outdoor champion, completed the 400 meter dash in a season-best 47.37 seconds, which also was an “A”
standard time for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.
Also performing well for the Lions was Stanley Dervil, who achieved a seasons best in the men’s long jump with a leap of 22 feet. He made 6 feet 7 inches in the men’s high jump. Deandre Rawlins ran the 100-meter dash in 11.12 seconds and Maurice Days clocked in at 11.16 seconds.
The men’s 4X100 relay team comprising Dredame Carter, Stanley Dervil, Days and Rawlins won in a time of 43.44 seconds.
On the women's team, Javonya Wilson was the top female for the Lady Lions, completing the 100-meter dash in 12.23 seconds. Gregria Higgs was just behind with 12.25 seconds and Krysten Black was third with 12.45 seconds. Black completed the 200 meter dash in 25.83 seconds.
In the women’s 400 meter dash, Ashley Hanna came in second with a time of 56.41 seconds, which was also an “A" standard time for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.
The women's 4×400 relay team of Wilson, Higgs, Hanna and D'Taries Luckett placed third overall with a time of 4:01.41.
The Lions track & field athletes will return to action this weekend, competing in Coral Gables in the Hurricane Invitational.
