As one of the three winners in the state, Nya Jones will receive a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.  She will travel with two of her family members to the governor’s Black History Month celebration to be held in Tallahassee this week.

“Nya is an exceptional example of everything that is right and good in our middle school students at Polo Park.  We are extremely proud of her many accomplishments.  She is a gifted writer and an excellent student,” said Scott Blake, principal.

The topic of the high school and middle school essays was: "Describe an African-American who made a significant achievement in science and technology and how has that achievement advanced American quality of life. How has this person inspired you to become interested in science and technology and how do you plan to use this inspiration to advance America?"
