FORT LAUDERDALE — On Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, author and playwright Cynthia Diane Bell will speak on her books, Hooray for Cindy: I do not want to be a Bully, My Little Black Dress, and her biography, Get These Bones out of My Closet, which speaks of her trials as a single, divorced parent in financial struggles, dating as a Christian woman with the burden of having been raped as a young girl.
Writing and directing plays are just a few of the things Cynthia does that prompted her to establish her own companies, Cynthia Bell Productions & Ministries and her nonprofit Community Theatre Corporation. She is constantly soliciting sponsors to help people in and around the community.
Bell is the oldest of seven children born to Shelton Robinson, Jr. and Bobbie Golston Walker in Gainesville. She comes from a family of honest, hard-working people and a host of educators dating back as early as the Civil War. She resides in Hollywood with her husband Johnnie and daughter, Dawn Fuller. Her eldest daughter, Adrieene Fuller, lives in Dallas, Ga.
Bell’s objective is to educate, motivate and entertain the community with plays, and encourage the youth and senior citizens to be more involved in the cultural arts.
