SOUTH MIAMI-DADE — The Rev. Dr. R. A. Vernon, pastor of The Word Church in Cleveland, Ohio, will kick off his 2012 “The One Night Stand for Singles” national tour at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
Vernon will talk to singles of all ages on the issues raised in his latest book, 10 Rules of Dating, at 8 p.m. Jan. 6 at the church, 10701 S.W. 184th St., in the South Miami-Dade community of Perrine.
The event is sponsored by Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church.
“Most singles don’t know what to look for…if you’re not careful, you’ll make a mistake and fall into the wrong person’s arms and give up something too fast,” Vernon says.
His book is intended to help both younger and mature singles navigate the world of finding a partner using Godly principles.
“I’ll show you the proper way of things to look for before you hook up with anybody,” he says.
Sweet Home’s Senior Pastor the Rev. Jeremy Upton said Vernon’s lecture will provide “insight on how to avoid the pitfalls and traps of dating in the new millennium.”
Vernon, who founded The Word Church and is also a philanthropist and humanitarian dedicated to creating and providing programs, resources, and services to help the less fortunate.
He is the author of several other books, including, Blessing Behind Closed Doors and Size Does Matter: Moving Your Ministry from Micro to Mega.
He has a diploma of theology, a master of arts in practical theology and a doctorate of ministry with a concentration in church growth from Ashland Theological Seminary.
