The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 20 and will take place at the African-American Research & Cultural Center in unincorporated Fort Lauderdale. Among them is Wiley Thompson, who will be elevated to the rank of colonel and will be made the permanent executive director of Administration.
Captain Fernando Gajate will be promoted to major and will oversee BSO’s Human Resources Department. BSO still will not have any blacks, women, or Hispanics in its senior law enforcement command, but Thompson, who is black and Gajate, a Cuban, will now become the highest ranking minorities within the sheriff’s department.
Others said to be receiving promotions are Donald Prichard, who is Sheriff Al Lamberti’s executive officer and Tammy Measel, who will be promoted to sergeants. The list shows several other employees will also be promoted in law enforcement and fire rescue divisions.
