william-likely_web.jpgBelle Glade — William Likely, a Glades Central High School junior has been named the 2011-2012 Gatorade Florida Football Player of the Year. This award honors top high school student athletes in 12 varsity sports for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.


The selection process is administered by ESPNHS sports and lifestyle magazine for teens and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team.

Likely previously was named the 2011 Palm Beach County High School Football Player of the Year at the Palm Beach County Sports Commission’s 20th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet held recently at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. The award goes to the top prep player in the county.

Likely is the sixth Glades Central student athlete to receive this honor, following Omar Haugabook (2003), Curtis Holley (2001), Brad Banks (1997), Johnny Rutledge (1994) and Fred Taylor (1993). 

Additionally, Glades Head Coach Roosevelt Blackmon was a finalist for Coach of the Year, and Glades Central won High School Team of the Year. Principal Anthony Anderson congratulated Likely, Coach Blackmon and the entire Raider football team on a job well done, adding: “This recognition shows their dedication and hard work.”
