Pompano Beach — The Pompano Beach Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. has partnered with Broward College in an initiative which the group said is designed to enhance the academic and personal success of young males.

The partnership debuted during a formal event on Nov. 6 at the college’s North Campus, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Pompano Beach, which is headed by Barbara Bryan, president.

The aim is to push the success of the fraternity’s Kappa Leagures whose primary purpose is to help young men, especially black males, of high-school age cultivate and develop their leadership skills in preparation for college and life generally.

The program emphasizes the importance of respect for self, respect for others, and the rewards of community service.

“By partnering with parents, community volunteers, post-secondary institutions and the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, the program is designed to produce the future leaders of our community,” a fraternity statement said.

Components of the Kappa Leagures program include mentoring, leadership training, academic tutoring, college guidance and test preparation, career guidance and “self-identity” workshops.
