FIRST “OFFICIAL TRI-RAIL DAY”: On Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW 2nd St., Fort Lauderdale, riders of the commuter rail system with a valid train ticket will receive a $2 discount on museum admission for a fun-filled day.

Families and children will have the opportunity to explore the museum’s array of exhibits and are encouraged to visit “Thomas & FriendsTM: Explore the Rails!” Featuring the favorite engines and destinations from Thomas & Friends™, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) – focused exhibit seeks to engage children, ages 2 through 7, and families in foundational skills that foster STEM literacy through playful learning experiences.

The day will also feature auditions for Tri-Rail’s singing competition “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent.” The auditions are open to solo or group singers, ages five to 17, who are South Florida residents. Each act will have a four-minute opportunity to perform at the auditions. FLORIDA BEACH BOWL TICKETS ON SALE: The inaugural Florida Beach Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 at DRV PNK Stadium, 1350 NW 55th St. in Fort Lauderdale will feature an enthusiastic post-season matchup between two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) football teams who are a part of the NCAA Division II football program. “THRESHOLDS”: A new exhibit at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, featuring a collection that marks the milestones of a life journey, through African artifacts artifacts including fertility figurines, statutes, a Swahili bench, beaded Nigerian crowns, masks, aloalo (funerary pole sculpture from the Madagascar region), and monumental figures, such as Baga snakes, wooden figurines that beckon in a fertile harvest.
