herman_cain.jpgWASHINGTON (AP) _ Texas Gov. Rick Perry's family used to lease a hunting camp known by a racially offensive name, and a presidential rival calls that insensitive. n the N-word that may be offensive to some readers. For global distribution.

At issue is a rock outside the Texas camp that once carried the word “Niggerhead.''

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, who's black, says it shows “a lack of sensitivity'' that the word was displayed for a long time and the camp wasn't renamed.

Perry's campaign says the rock was painted over soon after Perry's father leased the site in the early 1980s. The Washington Post reports the camp was known by that word long before the Perrys' lease.

Perry tells the Post that the word is an “offensive name that has no place in the modern world.''

Cain appeared on “Fox News Sunday'' and ABC's “This Week.''
