TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ State Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Canady wants to know if Florida's foreclosure mediation program has been a success or failure.
Canady on Monday appointed five judges and a court administrator to provide an answer based on more than a year's worth of data.
The Supreme Court began the program in February 2010 to help Florida cope with a flood of residential foreclosure cases.
Lenders must try to reach mediated settlements with borrowers before asking courts to step in.
The chief justice asked the panel to recommend whether the program should be continued, modified or eliminated.
Canady also wants it to propose other steps for managing foreclosure case should the mediation program be ended.
He has set an Oct. 21 deadline
