Wrapping up what some would consider a pivotal moment in American history, The United States House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol concluded its investigation of the events that led up to and tragically resulted in a failed 2021insurrection attempt, by sending the Department of Justice (DOJ) four criminal referrals.

There was one name at the head of each – Donald J. Trump – with Dr. John Eastman cited on two, and the phrase “and others” added on all.

The committee held its last and final public meeting Monday – a quick glance at the evidence and testimony regarding what contributed to an angry mob storming Capitol Hill and clashing with Capitol Police with the sole purpose to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes that symbolized Joseph R. Biden’s 2020 presidential win, while placing the lives of Vice President Mike Pence and other House members in peril.

The committee outlined five major sections of the investigation that were covered extensively during the public hearings over the summer, with sworn testimony by Trump White House staff members such as Cassidy Hutchinson, Kayleigh McEnany, then Department of Justice head Bill Barr, White House lawyer Pat Cippolini, and Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Those areas are: The Big Lie, Rather Than Concede, Donald Trump Choses to Obstruct The January 6th Proceeding, Efforts to Pressure States to Change the Election Outcome, and to Create and Transmit Fake Elector Certificates, Efforts to Corrupt the Justice Department, and last, Summoning a Mob to Washington Knowing They Were Angry and Armed, Instructing Them to March to the Capitol.

These are the building blocks that present a cohesive and concise bridge to the day that American democracy came under threat. They demonstrate the lengths to which former president Donald Trump was willing to go to maintain power. They also convey the thoughts of a corrupt man who is more than willing to sacrifice everything and everyone for his own selfish gain.

When Trump heard the truth about the election outcome, he rejected the truth for corruption. Giuliani and Roger Stone were in his ear to declare victory before all the votes were counted. As the numbers revealed he had lost, Trump publicly decried that fraud was at play by way of Dominion machines, that switches had flipped from him to Biden, and that votes were being counted in South America like in Venezuela. Trump accused Georgia ballot counters Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss of exchanging USB drives like “vials of cocaine and heroin,” when in actuality it was a ginger mint candy. Upon hearing that angry insurrection mob members were screaming “Hang Mike Pence, hang Mike Pence,” Trump commented, “Well, he deserved it.” Courts repeatedly ruled there was no election fraud. To this day, Trump claims that the presidency was stolen from him – while the truth is that he attempted to steal the election, which would have dismantled the U.S. Constitution and what we know as democracy.

When you really think about Trump’s failed coup, it’s not hard to see the disdain he has for Biden. Once Trump discovered that Biden could become a political threat back in 2019, he, Guliani and others came up with the shakedown plot of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It entailed that county’s leader coming up with dirt on Biden and his son Hunter, in exchange for the continuation of U.S. financial support.

Zelenskky declined. This led to the first impeachment of Donald Trump. So it is not a stretch that Trump desired to go to whatever lengths and take whatever corrupt measures necessary to steal the election from Biden.

In recent months, Trump, again has shown his utter hatred of Biden, in his corrupted thinking that the election was stolen from him, and the fact that he has stolen classified, secret, and top-secret documents from the White House. These documents were to be transferred to the presidential archives. But in Trump’s belief that he is the rightful president of the United States, the classified materials were moved to his Mar-a-Largo residence.

We cannot fail to reiterate the missteps of Trump or ignore them. Everything that he has said or done, going all the way back to his instigation that Barack Obama was not born in the U.S., must be regurgitated to prove that Trump does not care about this country. He only cares about himself and his insatiable lust for power.

In a word, Trump needs to be stopped. The four criminal referrals must be acted upon by Merrick Garland’s DOJ or Trump will continue to pick at the Constitution until he has finished job that he started on Jan. 6. He has accomplices willing to help him with that job, in the 35 congressmen and one woman, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who all texted White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on or before Jan. 6 with allegiance to Trump, suggestions on how to snatch the election from Biden, and other treasonous fodder that is so bad that Meadows has refused to turn over the remaining text messages. Trump has the capacity and manpower to do this country some real damage to get what he wants. All he needs is the opportunity. The DOJ must act on those four criminal referrals: I. Obstruction of an Official Proceeding (Trump, John Eastman, and others); II. Conspiracy to Defraud the United States (Trump, John Eastman, and others); III. Conspiracy to Make Fraudulent Credentials (Trump, and others); and IV. Incite, Assist, or Aid or Comfort An Insurrection (Trump).

If the DOJ fails to act and prosecute Donald J. Trump for his crimes against this country, then the Constitution is not worth the paper it was written on.
