FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) CEO/President Newton B. Sanon and CEO/President Carol Hylton of CareerSource Broward have collaborated to create the Non-Custodial Parent Employment Program (NCPEP) designed to assist non-custodial parents who are unemployed or underemployed with the resources to gain industry-recognized training, credentials, and soft skills. The program is open to individuals who are parents, 18 years and older, and with child(ren) receiving government assistance. The program is also open to justice-involved participants. “Raising children is no easy task as a parent residing in the house with your children. Now let’s consider how those challenges can be exacerbated when you are not the custodial parent, have some involvement with the criminal justice system, or who may be struggling financially,” said CEO/President Sanon. “As a leader in short-term career trainings and job placement assistance, it was important that we consider all the nuances and potential pitfalls of job seekers.” he added.
“If you want to make a difference in the lives of those dealing with unemployment and the prosperity of families, you have to meet people in the midst of their struggle to bring them out,” said Holly Ellazar, Director of Workforce Development at OICSFL. “Our Non-Custodial Parent Employment Program is tailored innovatively and inclusively to help those individuals who may find themselves uniquely marginalized. We empower individuals with the essential training they need to be capable financial providers for their families.”
OIC-SFL offers training certifications for commercial drivers (class B CDL), food service, general construction, information technology, supply chain operations, and warehouse logistics.
