Grammy nominated R&B sensation Trey Songz recently hosted a private penthouse party at the Setai South Beach hotel in Miami Beach.
The event, held in collaboration with the Rose Lounge as part of the Moet & Chandon Imperial Nectar Rose’s four-city celebrity tour, was an exclusive 200-person celebration to benefit Songz’s foundation, Angels With Heart.
As a means of giving back to the community, Songz founded the organization in 2010 to encourage members of his official fan club to perform volunteer or community service in their neighborhoods, serving as “Trey’s Angels.”
Moet presented Songz and his mother, April Tucker, a check for $5,000 to benefit the charity.
With music by DJ Ruckus, DJ Wonder and celebrity appearances by recording artist Tank and actor Will Smith, lounge guests received unlimited glasses of Moet Rose cocktails and had an opportunity to mix and mingle with the socialites and celebrities. Exclusive guests also received a pair of limited edition Moet Rose sunglasses made with Mosley Tribe’s Raynes aviator frames with mineral lens that adjust to lighting conditions.
Songz — Tremaine Aldon Neverson – was born in 1984 in Petersburg, Va. He released his debut album, I Gotta Make It, in 2005. That was followed by Trey Day (2007), Ready (2009) and Passion, Pain & Pleasure (2010), to be followed by Chapter 5.
Miami was the third stop on the tour which will make its final stop in Chicago in the coming months.
In the midst of the tour, Songz has been busy working on other projects and will soon make his acting debut in the 3-D remake of the 1974 classic horror flick The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, slated to be released in October 2012.
Songz, who plays Ryan in the film, told South Florida Times that, while he can’t give too much away, he has a great role as the leading man.
“Acting is something that I’ve always appreciated and respected,” he said. “I thought this was something I could do if I gave the appropriate time to it and really honed my craft.”
“What I love most about acting is that it’s just like music. It has the ability to change people’s emotions as they watch and, just like music, you listen and it takes you to a certain place, movies take you on a rollercoaster all the time,” he said. “And this film is an accurate tag-on of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the movie that sent horror films into a whole different place.”
He said he will “definitely” consider future acting opportunities if the right films come along and fit into the vision he has for himself as an entertainer.
“One thing about me is that I’m all about good energy and it’s not all about the money,” he said. “It’s about the art in a lot of ways –and making sure it’s a great monetary situation as well.”
Songz’s appearance at the Moet Lounge also came as he was wrapping up work for a video shoot for newcomer J. Cole’s Can’t Get Enough, alongside R&B artist Rihanna. The shoot felt like Big Pimpin 2012, he said, referring to hip-hop mogul Jay-Z’s 1999 release of the Big Pimpin’ single that featured rapper Bun B and the late Pimp C.
“We were out in Barbados, out on the boat, there were a bunch of Caribbean women and we had fun,” Songz said. “We were out on the beach and it was hot but the energy around that record was so dope. I think J. Cole is amazing, as well, and he’s going to be a star.”
As the evening concluded, Songz thanked lounge participants and Moet for their support of his foundation and the work he is doing in the industry.
“I appreciate the city of Miami for showing me so much love,” he said.
