The money is coming from Wexler's District 5 discretionary funds made available through the Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond.

In addition, commissioners approved a $50,000 match from the Broward Sheriff's Office, for a total donation of $100,000, to build the Police Memorial Wall of Honor at Markham Park.

"I am grateful to be able to help the Police Honor Guard of Broward County Inc. reach their goal to construct a Wall of Honor at Markham Park. This beautiful and serene site provides the perfect place for reflection," Wexler said in a statement announcing the grant.

The memorial will provide a venue for families and friends to reflect and pay tribute to law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service to the community.

It will pay tribute to more than 60 men and women and four K-9 officers.

The memorial will be located on an acre of land and will feature a wall with names of deceased officers engraved on it, two reflecting ponds, a flag court and a long walkway that will separate the reflection areas.
