The honor, given annually since 1961, identifies a teacher from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada who has made valuable contributions to the profession and to students.
Criteria for the award include teaching ability, experience, creativity, initiative, inherent teaching strengths and cooperation in the school and the community.
Anand teaches Advanced Biology and Honors Biology at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, 501 South Sapodilla Ave.
He is a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers, Florida Association of Science Teachers and other education-related organizations.
He also coordinates a yearly Marine Research Development Trip to Key Largo for his students and has also taken groups of students to Europe. An Outstanding Biology Teacher Award Honors Luncheon will be hosted by the National Association of Biology Teachers at its annual convention in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 12-15.
Besides the award certificate, Anand will be presented a pair of high-quality binoculars from Prentice Hall and a microscope from Leica at the luncheon.
And he has also been selected as the Outstanding Biology Teacher in Florida by the Florida Association of Science Teachers this year.
