TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The Florida Senate has approved an $810,000 payment for a Brevard County man wrongfully convicted of a 1981 homicide.
The Senate voted 39-0 Wednesday to approve the payment on behalf of William Dillon, who spent 27 years in prison before DNA evidence cast doubt on his case in the bludgeoning death of James Dvorak.
Dillon was released from prison in 2008 and prosecutors dropped the murder charge after a judge then ordered a new trial.
The bill still requires House approval.
The Senate also passed a bill goes to Gov. Rick Scott compensating Angela Isham $600,000 in the 2001 death of her husband, who was killed when his truck was struck by a speeding unmarked car driven by Fort Lauderdale narcotics detectives in pursuit of a suspected drug dealer.
