OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma lawmaker who gained national notoriety with an anti-homosexual rant in 2008 disparaged blacks and women during a debate this week on an affirmative action bill.
The remarks from Republican state Rep. Sally Kern prompted the head of the state chapter of the National Assciation for the Advancement of Colored People to demand her resignation.
Kern said Thursday she was sorry for remarks she made on the floor of the House and that she had "misspoke."
During a legislative debate late Wednesday, Kern questioned whether there were disproportionately high numbers of blacks in state prisons because "they didn't want to work hard in school."
Kern also said women don't work as hard as men because they "tend to think a little bit more about their families."
