WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In celebration of its new Women’s Walk the Norton Museum of Art is presenting programs highlighting women in the arts.
Women curators, art historians, film directors as well as artists will discuss feminist art history and the role of women artists in visual art as Art After Dark continues March 29 – April 1at the museum in West Palm Beach.
The schedule features “Women Artists and Activism,” at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29. View the Girls’ Club Collection documentary “Women Painting,” which explores the experiences of 11 women artists working today, then join a conversation about art and activism with the filmmakers, Girls’ Club directors Sarah Michelle Rupert and Michelle Weinberg.
Also, Miami-based artist collective (F)empower presents a radical ’zine-making workshop and hosts a garden party featuring their DJs, Loka & Yazmine. The documentary also will be screened on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Admission is free on Friday and Saturday.
Feminist Art History Forum” will be the focus from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. In this era of movements such as #MeToo and Time’s Up, the museum examines women’s roles in the visual arts throughout history. This forum has been organized in conjunction with the inauguration of the Women’s Walk on Cranesnest Way, at the south edge of the museum campus, which commemorates women artists.
Leading scholars discussing this topic include Kirsten Pai Buick, professor of Art History at the University of New Mexico; Lisa Gail Collins, professor and chair of Art at Vassar College; Catherine Morris, the Brooklyn Museum’s Sackler Senior Curator at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art; and Elvira Dyangani Ose, director of The Showroom in London.
