BOSTON (AP) – Gov. Deval Patrick is chuckling at reports he could be nominated to the Supreme Court if Barack Obama was elected president in upcoming elections.

The state's first black governor on Monday said he loves his current job and “intends” to run for re-election in 2010.

He's also campaigning for Obama, a fellow Chicagoan and Harvard Law School graduate trying to become the first black president. Obama is now a Democratic senator from Illinois.

Patrick told reporters Monday talk about him becoming a Supreme Court justice is “speculation turning into a news story.”

“First of all, there is no President Obama, yet. Can we just remember that? That's the first thing that has to happen,” Patrick said. “The second thing, just to be utterly, absolutely clear: I love the job I have. I intend to stay in this job. I intend to run for another term and continue pressing forward on this agenda.”
