PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – School Food Service is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at Howell L. Watkins Middle School to unveil a new multifaceted school based wellness program.
H.L. Watkins 6th graders will be introduced to their “Garden of Dreams,” a program designed to provide them with a special space to heighten their awareness, encourage them to dream big and emphasize the importance of how academics is the pathway necessary to transform their dreams into reality.
What makes the launch of this multifaceted program super exciting is that it is in alignment with the District’s Strategic Theme “Positive and Supportive School Climate,” it involves our most vulnerable and impressionable children – middle school kids- and matches up with the District’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiative that is rolling out in our elementary schools under the Wallace Grant.
The garden itself provides the space for students to reflect, engage in selfdiscovery, recognize the importance and impact of their choices, and how their actions contribute to their results. As they walk to the garden, the students will have the opportunity to post their dreams on the “Wall of Dreams.” The intention is to reinforce and remind students as they move between classes, about what matters most and how academic prowess contributes to their success.
Board Members from Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful, the donor of this garden, will be present and recognized at the ribbon cutting.
