At a “Wakanda” themed gala held on Saturday, June 2, at the Miami Airport Hilton, District 1 School Board Member Steve Gallon III received the 2018 Educator of the Year award for Miami-Dade County by Legacy Miami at an event that celebrated and honored leaders from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

Legacy Miami highlighted Gallon’s efforts and success as a life-long educator and his championing of causes in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, such as educational equity and access, exceptional student education, increased teacher and employee salaries, and fair and equitable opportunities for small, minority and local businesses,

Gallon, who is also the National School Board Association’s 2017 Benjamin Elijah Mays Award winner, was recognized and honored for nearly 30 years of service to public education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, school superintendent and school board member.
