MIAMI — Every third Friday of the month, Sounds of Little Haiti takes over the Little Haiti Cultural Complex with an outpouring of rich cultural experiences, a musical showcase, family art activities, art exhibitions, and shopping in the Caribbean Marketplace.
The third Friday of May (May 18) also happens to be Haitian Flag Day so the celebration takes on even greater meaning. Haitian Flag Day celebrates the culture and recreates the magic of Haiti for Haitian people living in all four corners of the world who still call Haiti home. Little Haiti provides the space and ambiance for people to commemorate the culture of home. Haitian pop icon and former president Sweet Micky will take center stage at Sounds of Little Haiti.
“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate Haitian Flag Day in Little Haiti. The Haitian flag is a symbol of pride and our team has worked to put together an event to celebrate the authentic culture and heritage of Haiti,” said Sandy Dorsainvil, Sounds of Little Haiti and Maximillian Consultants.
This free outdoor event is a magnet intended to bring together Haitians in the Diaspora, local residents, and tourists where they can sample, share, and see authentic Haitian culture and its influence in the South Florida community. The event will be hosted by Mecca (a.k.a. Grimo) and is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex.
Sponsors for the event include Maximillian Consultants Inc., Purforce Group, Prestige Beer, the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Keon Hardemon, the Chair of the City of Miami Commission, the Office of Mayor Francis Suarez, Magic City Innovation District Foundation, Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, Island T.V., Cola Couronne, Radio Mega Radio Flor, and WSRF 1580.
