County Commissioner Barbara Jordan of District 1 handed over the checks during a ceremony at the North Dade Regional Library.
Jordan, Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson and Bill Diggs, president/CEO of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, addressed the gathering.

Diggs spoke about business growth and development and he encouraged the entrepreneurs to join and become active in the chamber.

The check presentation resulted from a meeting which the Trust’s Economic Development Action Committee hosted last Sept. 7 at the Miami Gardens City Hall.

Miami Gardens businesses attended the session and applied for the stimulus grants.

The businesses can use the funds to enhance their company’s equipment and technology and to offset operating expenses.

The businesses are scheduled to receive technical assistance from the chamber in the areas of information technology, legal assistance, marketing and accounting.

“I’m so thankful that MDEAT coordinated this initiative. It is especially important now, during these economical times. Programs like this assist small businesses in continuing to provide good quality of products and services,” said grant recipient Danny Felton, owner of The Dress Code.
