MIAMI — The Dade County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated social service organization announced it has joined with His House Children’s Home to implement a series of workshops as part of a curriculum focusing on childhood obesity prevention.
The partnership will focus on children aged 7-11 who are enrolled at the His House Academy operated by the home.
The academy offers at-risk students in grades 3 through 8 a faith-based private school education in a small classroom setting. The teachers will incorporate the childhood obesity curriculum into their overall academic program and members of The Links, Incorporated will facilitate sessions through April that will deal with specific parts of the curriculum.
Topics will include building better bodies, making wise choices, selecting nutrient rich foods and celebrating your healthier family.
“Childhood obesity is a serious concern,” said Links Chapter President Barbara Edwards. “The Dade County Chapter of The Links Inc. is excited to join with First Lady Michelle Obama and the nation in bringing awareness to a serious problem, while also teaching the importance of making healthy choices.”
