TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ A Florida state agency wants more people to register their contact information for use in a vehicle crash or other emergency.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says about 4 million Floridians have registered. But officials the goal is to get most of the state's 15.5 million licensed drivers.
Contact information makes it quicker and easier for authorities to notify family members after a vehicle crash or similar emergency. The information can only be accessed by law enforcement personnel.
Officials say registration is free and can be done at a drivers' license office or through the Internet. Licensed drivers and state identification card holders are asked to submit contact information for two people.
