Madeline’s Christmas: The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Performance Project present the popular young heroine live on stage at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10; 11 a.m., 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1; and 1 and 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center. Santa Claus will be in the lobby following the 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. performances on Saturday. Tickets cost between $6 and $15, depending on show time. Saturday, Dec. 11

Nina’s Kids Auditions: Join a musical group inspired by the daughter of legendary singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone at Jungle Island from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for auditions for the  ensemble band, children’s choral group and production team mainly serving underprivileged and under-served youth. The audition process will include vocal auditions for the choral group and instrumental try-outs for the ensemble band. A piano/keyboard will be provided at the audition but all other instruments must be taken to the audition. In addition to the children’s choral group, Nina’s Kids is also seeking youth who are interested in participating on the production team.

Friday, Dec. 17

Zoo Lights: Zoo Miami’s grounds will come to light for 12 nights from 7 to 10 p.m., Dec. 17-30 (excluding Dec. 24 and 25). Guests can enjoy dozens of bright animal-shaped lights along the walkways, while sipping hot chocolate, munching on cookies and listening to holiday music.  General admission is $8.95 plus tax per adult and $6.95 plus tax per child.  Zoo members are $7.95 plus tax per adult and $5.95 plus tax per child.  Included with admission price is a pair of 3D glasses. William J. Faulkner Oratorical Contest: The Church of the Open Door Women’s Fellowship, Circle II, is accepting entries for its annual public speaking contest to give youth an opportunity to display their skills. Students may recite, from memory, spoken words, poetry, essays, monologues, raps and speeches. Performance pieces must be between one minute and five minutes long. Prizes will be awarded in each level. All participants must attend at least one of two rehearsals, dates to be determined. Holy-Wood Records to Host Special Christmas Show: South Florida’s award-winning Christian rapper Prodigal Son and the staff of Holy-Wood Records will host a Christmas night show featuring free gifts and music at 7 p.m. at Changing Ur Life Ministries, 4501 NW 31st Ave.,  Oakland Park. Donation is $5 for adults and $1 for kids 12 and under.
