The Young At Art Museum in Davie will host the fifth annual Eco Art Fashion Show Friday, Nov. 19, titled, Global Stomp," featuring original "green-themed" fashions inspired by the art and environmental practices of countries around the world.
Designers include Young At Art teen volunteers and girls from the PACE Center for Girls and proceeds will go to supporting Young At Art’s teen and at-risk youth programs.
Each of the young designers selected a country as the inspiration for his or her designs that incorporates its local colors, art and environmental practices, all to create a high-energy runway show of original chic.
Recycled materials such as old newspaper, plastic bottles, aluminum and bubble wrap, are some of the stylistic elements that will make up the edgy couture created and modeled by the teens.
Mary Giuseffi, a fashion and image consultant who has appeared on Oprah, 48 Hours, The Montel Williams Show and ABC News, will be the emcee.
Guest judges will include Luis Valenzuela, a local green art philosopher and eco-artist, who recently debuted his collection during New York Fashion Week, and Majanne Kalf, a fashion designer whose work has been featured on the show She’s Got The Look.
“Each year, our Eco Art Fashion Show is a dazzling, fun-filled extravaganza that highlights creative, interactive ways to recycle through art, which is part of Young At Art's mission," said Mindy Shrago, executive director of Young At Art Museum located at 11584 W. State Road 84, Davie. “The fashion show grows larger every year and we are proud of our teen designers and the community for supporting our efforts to use art as a vehicle for environmental awareness.”
The evening's atmosphere will be charged by colorful style boards on display, crafted by the teens to describe each country's environmental and sustainability needs and practices. Exploring Young At Art’s Earthworks Exhibit will extend the evening’s environmental experience as visitors embark on a creative journey to turn common, everyday recycled items into works of art.
From 7 to 8 p.m. guests will have a chance to sample foods from different cultures and also create their own eco art fashion accessories at “green art” workshops located throughout the museum. The fashion show will start at 8 p.m.
